If there's anything you guys need to help with porting material over, ask. We'll try and take care of it ASAP.

Does the forum software allow you to change ownership of threads/ posts in case the original authors join the board after their content has been archived?
: Re: Request what you need!
: Stratovarius June 13, 2017, 07:30:13 PM
Yes it does. We've done that before with the BG -> MMX move.
: Re: Request what you need!
: oslecamo June 13, 2017, 10:04:52 PM
Could you change the forum code so that after we add a reply to a thread, it takes us inside the thread instead of out?

Also when I try to copy-paste big chunks of text like my ToBhou classes, the forum only posts a fragment and sometimes nothing. Even if I try to copy-paste small chunks from the bigger post, it fizzles. Posts that were originally small seem to copy-paste relatively fine.
: Re: Request what you need!
: oslecamo June 14, 2017, 04:45:19 AM
I believe I have found the error source. The old forum used a different format for characters like " and -, so if one wants to copy-paste here, they need to replace those, otherwise this forum fizzles.
: Re: Request what you need!
: Stratovarius June 14, 2017, 06:17:41 AM
I'll nudge Prime, it's probably something in the upgraded php.

And you should be going back to posts now.
: Re: Request what you need!
: sirpercival June 14, 2017, 09:44:08 AM
It might be easier for everyone if I could create my own subfora for the purposes of transferring my stuff, instead of making someone else (aka the very busy Prime) do it. Might I have that ability, which I'd happily give up when finished? Or is there some other mechanism to make that easier?
: Re: Request what you need!
: Stratovarius June 14, 2017, 10:31:38 AM
Just ask me, honestly. For the moment though, I'll probably just create a single home for you and then make you moderator of it, so you can move threads around as necessary.

Your new home (http://minmaxforum.com/index.php?board=7.0)
: Re: Request what you need!
: sirpercival June 14, 2017, 10:35:27 AM
Perf. What I'm going to do is post tons of stuff in there, and then we can make more subfora later if we feel like it.
: Re: Request what you need!
: PlzBreakMyCampaign June 14, 2017, 12:46:48 PM
Agreed with the above. I don't mind plopping everything of mine down so people can focus on others. Once I get a place, I'll do the same.

Basically I can plop down everyone's 3e handbook at once (here). What I can't do is easily recreate the format in forum code. A copy-paste will just make it ugly and not do things justice. Is there a program that will do the formatting for me?

You might be able to use an HTML-to-BBCode converter like this one (https://www.garyshood.com/htmltobb/).

Strato, I don't think PBMC meant for homebrew. It should probly be in Handbooks...
: Re: Request what you need!

He asked for Homebrew.
: Re: Request what you need!
: SorO_Lost June 14, 2017, 04:02:40 PM
Speaking of homebrew, Osl should probably have his own subforum(s) like before and it looks like he's already got almost half of his stuff reposted too.
: Re: Request what you need!
: SorO_Lost June 14, 2017, 05:21:57 PM
Change in attachment size limitation if possible.
Currently it's 128kb/file & 192kb/post, thinking 10mb should be enough?

I can understand wanting to limit it to reduce HD usage, MMX boards only allowed the first post (and maybe handbook writer club only?) to support attachments. But as a tool it can be pretty handy, like ADM just posted a couple links to D&D 5th's Unearthed Arcana files and I could post all of them since May on here for <5mb. With WotC screwing things up, I'd be up for posting all of the FAQ/Errata pdfs too.
: Re: Request what you need!
: PlzBreakMyCampaign June 14, 2017, 05:37:02 PM
Yeah. I don't mind putting all the handbooks in the right spot (the handbook forum). I was just mentioning putting things like various builds of mine somewhere else since I didn't feel they belong in the handbook forum. Thank you for the PBMC park!

I second the idea of 10MB attachments. Can you change is so only handbook writers have the 10MB access whiles everyone else only has the default .1MB? That would allow me to do things like post zipped HTML of saved pages...
: Re: Request what you need!
: oslecamo June 14, 2017, 06:48:39 PM
Since it seems like subforums are a thing again I humbly request one of my own. If you could move my threads there right away would be great too. Still have lots to transfer.
: Re: Request what you need!
: Stratovarius June 14, 2017, 07:10:00 PM
I'll nudge prime on the attachments.

Osle, forum's up. Will move threads in a bit.
: Re: Request what you need!
: Nanshork June 14, 2017, 09:51:08 PM
Strat, if you need help with backend stuff my offer is still open in pretty much any capacity.

Edit: I'd also like us to have a Handbooks Discussion section like we used to, it helped clean up the handbooks themselves massively.
: Re: Request what you need!

Forum Code

I've (for the most part) figured out how I had my tables set up.  However, I can't figure out how I did empty cells as placeholders.  Is there a better way to do empty cells than [ cell]              [/cell]?

Also, we need (eventually) some of the special forum code we had on the old mmx.

Dice rolling, sortable tables, the float tag, and highlighting are what I've come up with after looking through the "Extra BBCode thread from the old board" out of the listed things that aren't working currently.

Also, posting for me still takes me back to the main forum page.
: Re: Request what you need!
: SorO_Lost June 15, 2017, 12:45:37 AM
Prime32 already has the table2 tag working along with cellspan and such.

Not sure if the dicebot's in, lets test it.
[roll]{Attack} 1d20+10[/roll]
Nope, doesn't work yet.

Another request, can I get a subboard once the download limit is increased? I have all the Errata, FAQs, and Rules Of The Game unzipped and appropriately named (with dates) I can post to ensure people can find them. I should have most, if not all, of the Web Enhancements and Mind's Eye on a back up CD too. And if people have used a Web-Page-to-PDF to snag the pages that cannot be downloaded, I only have a few like the Archpsion and Swiftblade, I can handle submissions in there and archive those as well.
: Re: Request what you need!
: Stratovarius June 15, 2017, 05:17:11 AM
Strat, if you need help with backend stuff my offer is still open in pretty much any capacity.

That kind of thing is a Prime question, he's easier to reach via the IRC.
: Re: Request what you need!

So where do we put down transfer requests? I'm busy with my own stuff, but there's a fair amount of other people's work that I need transferred to make sure my stuff is complete... lol.

Since this is kind of the "metaboard" area I propose the following structure based off the old boards layout. Now is the time (there are 0 posts in the newly made boards).

Metaboard (this boards called "General Discussion" can be renamed)
Other Gaming (Board games, conventions, etc)
Nongaming Fun
B**** like you have to

Gaming Advice
Campaign Journals
Fluff to Crunch (Let's Stat Up...)
Polling Place

Q&A
D&D 3.x
   CO
   Handbooks
   TO
General D&D
   5e
   4e
Mechanics Comparisons

Homebrew (People's child boards & Unofficial Errata)
Play By Post
   Current Games
   Retired Games

I put more thought into the above than I should have; even the spacing and order. I don't think we need a Noob EULA (indeed that might have contributed to the almost full year where we couldn't register new members).

The main archiving effort is here on GitP (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?527170-Index-of-Minmax-Brilliant-Gameologists-Threads&p=22088617), or if you don't have a GitP account, I've got a thread on these boards (http://minmaxforum.com/index.php?topic=6.0).

Also, if you don't mind including the whole URL to those if you have them? Preferably a wayback link if you have them.

It's just a hair different than MMX's layout, namely inspiration strikes is a redundant subforum and then mechanical writing & your game here kind of already falls into homebrew and such but it still has it's own area under game creation. Unofficial Errata & Podcasts were dropped and I think someone already called for 4th being renamed too. Meetups never really seemed to happen to much (more of a pm thing imo anyway) but I figured we needed an actual video game subforum since we had one thread for discussions and some times multiple things might get talked about at once.

How bout a regular forum mod to deal with the sudden bots we somehow have now making junkmail threads? Like, wow, that is weirdly fast considering google still sends minmax searches to the dead forum.

I spent a lot of time on the Iron Siege stuff. If someone knows how to port and, perhaps, send both mine and TravelLog's subforums somehow, I would be eternally grateful. I'm working with Google cache atm, but it's not quite optimal for this.

Any help you guys need, just ask.

I'm a bit lost on everything and was fortunate to notice a thread on GitP.  Can anyone catch me up?

Apparently the BG's decided to walk out on the forums completely. There's been an issue with Blue Host and the site's taken down. Stratovarius and Prime first thought it might be non-payment, so they tried paying the host with the expectation that the site would come back up. Only, apparently, non-payment was only one of the issues, and there's some unknown technical reason as to why the forums are still down. One possible explanation is too many files.

The BG's are currently unresponsive, and have been since May at least, as such, there's currently no better way of salvaging the situation other than crawling through Google's and Bing's caches and the Wayback Machine to try and bring everything worth saving over to this new board.

Someone already made an HTML dump of the WayBackMachine archive of the forums and put it on GitHub (IIRC), and the current problem is how to preserve formatting when transferring content over. As it stands it's hard manual labor.

So, right now, there's very little anyone can do. If anyone knows people that were regulars in the board and might still be clueless as to the situation, now it'd be a good time to reach out and explain to them and bring them onboard the preservation efforts.

That's more or less the gist of it, if i missed something or said something wrong please feel free to add or correct.

EDIT: Seems like the Rule of Cool forums also have many crossposts from the Min/Max boards as well, so might be a good place to also look for useful stuff to port over.

I'm back!

Any chance I could get a homebrew subforum like before for my larger compilations? It seems like you're trying to keep things more condensed than the sprawling subforums we had before; I can make do easily with just one subforum and have things sorted within. I'm writing a take home final for my masters course right now, but hopefully I should have the chance to start posting my old homebrew in a few days when it's done, so no rush.

What's the status of the tablesort tag? It seems to function as a table2, like before, but the sorting function doesn't seem to work any more (see thread (http://minmaxforum.com/index.php?topic=297.0)). Not an urgent request.

Not to worry. I have all of my complete homebrew (and a lot of the only partially complete stuff) backed up locally on my home computer. When I get the chance, I'll start reposting it here. I just did the three that Sirpercival asked for. If there's anything in particular you want fast, let me know so I can prioritize it. Just don't bother asking for Power of Cybernetics. Reposting that is a project in and of itself.

Actually on the topic of avatars, MMX had slightly bigger ones than the terrible 50x50 (sorry, 65x65 to be specific but close enough!) we seem to be on right now. It's been a very very long time since I was in a forum using a size limit that small :)

Checking the "Don't use smileys" option on a post breaks the [*] tag.

Also, is there any news on the status of sortable tables? The [tablesort] tag works fine (it makes a table, just like [table2]), except for the sorting function, which doesn't seem to be implemented. I think I may have asked about this already. It's not a pressing concern, either way.

Thanks.

Hey SV or Prime or whomever, when you get a chance (low priority) can I have a small army of sub-sub-fora? Here's the current list:

Archives of Ego
Codex of Conflict
Great Wheel Campaign Setting
Heroes of Hyrule
Heronmarked: The Art of Bladecraft
Inspiratum
Ethos of the Wyrm
Magipunk Campaign Setting

Thank you!

What just happened? The boards went kablooey, and now the old threads are in and the new stuff is on an address prefixed with storm-shetler. Not that I'm complaining about the old board threads being recovered (yay), but a little warning would have been appreciated. I just hope I'm not going to have to update all my links again.

Glad the backup boards are still here. We can still communicate with the staff in case bugs drop the main boards for a bit.

I'm getting "Unable to load the 'main_above' template." when I try to load the main boards. I'm sure you've noticed already and are working on fixing it, but I figure mentioning it can't hurt in the off chance you didn't.
